The students from Public Academy for Performing Arts (PAPA) International Thespian Society Troupe #6667 and the PAPA Theatre Department hosted their annual “Trick-Or-Treat-So-Kids-Can-Eat” food drive to benefit the Storehouse. The students collected over 300 pounds of food which will make 250 meals!
The Storehouse greatly appreciates the students and faculty at PAPA for having a food drive. Donations from the community are an essential part of feeding families in need. Plus a food drive is a great way to get students involved in volunteering and educating them on community needs, which can develop a pattern of service that lasts a lifetime.
Juliette Beck, Head of Theatre and Thespian Troupe Director, used to work in the nonprofit sector and says she wanted to “give back to the Storehouse by adopting them as the recipients of our annual food drive.” Juliette says, “Students want to make a difference and give back to the community and, as adults, it is our duty to provide opportunities for young people to contribute.” Juliette adds, “PAPA students are passionate about fighting childhood hunger and food insecurity in New Mexico.”
If your school would like to start a food drive, the Storehouse can deliver and pick up collection bins to your site. Just call (505) 842-6491 to get started. Try to collect foods that offer high nutritional value like canned tuna, nut butters, cereal, and healthy snacks. To increase the impact of your food drive, consider hosting a fund drive. We can stretch the dollars you donate and for every dollar you donate we can provide 5 meals.
The teacher at PAPA told us, “The students and I strongly believe in giving back and helping the community. Life can be hard and you never know what people are going through, so why not try our best to make the world a better place?” We couldn’t agree more! Thanks to PAPA and all the schools who have helped the Storehouse this year.
