The Storehouse is always looking for new ways to reach the community and raise money to feed local families. New events can be a fun and exciting way to raise awareness about hunger. So, when our Board Chair, Nathan Sanchez and his fellow car club member Ashlee Laughlin, came up with an idea for the Hot Rods for Hunger car show, we jumped at the opportunity.
Nathan is a member of a local car club called Mopar Most Wanted. The car club meets weekly for local shows with other car clubs around Albuquerque. For Nathan, the idea just made sense.
“I have a passion for nice cars and I have a passion for helping out my community. I wanted to come up with an event to combine these two passions while raising money for the Storehouse and introducing its mission to people that may not be aware of what we do.”
Nathan Sanchez, Storehouse board chair & Mopar Most Wanted car club member
You Can Take Part in Hot Rods for Hunger
The Hot Rods for Hunger car show is taking place Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Albertsons Market at Candelaria and Eubank in Albuquerque (2801 Eubank Blvd NE). It will include a Poker Run with cash prizes, a car show with up to 250 of New Mexico’s most amazing cars and lots of prizes. Not to mention entertainment and an after party.
Car enthusiasts are invited to register for the Poker Run for $20 or the Car Show for $20. People can also choose a combo entry and do both events for just $30. It’s the best value for all day fun.
Don’t have an amazing car? Come anyway! The Hot Rods for Hunger event is free and open to the public for viewing cars or enjoying the entertainment. Food trucks will be on hand to purchase a variety of foods.
Members of the public who want to help the food pantry at the event can also stop by our truck to donate either funds or canned goods. Those donations will give each person 1 voting ballot for their favorite cars. (You cannot vote for your own car and there is a limit of 1 ballot per person.) All proceeds benefit the Storehouse New Mexico food pantry. Your donations will stay here in New Mexico and benefit people who come to the Storehouse for free groceries. Every dollar raised will provide 5 meals to people in need.

“Mopar Most Wanted has a passion for bringing the car community together in a positive way. We love working with the Storehouse because of the positive impact they have on hunger.”

Matching Gifts Can Double Your Donation!
This year, Bell’s Brewery and Premier Distributing are sponsoring the Hot Rods for Hunger event by matching donations to double the impact for the Storehouse. The first $5,200 donated will be doubled by these organizations. That means your registration of $20 will become a $40 gift to the food pantry. Your donations will go even further than usual. The Storehouse greatly appreciates these matching funds.
There’s a Poker Run & After Party, too!
The Poker Run is a new aspect to the Hot Rods for Hunger this year. It will kick off the event at 8 am and runs until 11 am. Not sure what a Poker Run is? Well, it is essentially a Sunday drive to five hosted spots around Albuquerque. Participants will draw a poker card at each stop to try to get their best poker hand. It starts and ends at the Hot Rods for Hunger event site, at Eubank & Candelaria. All poker hands and participant forms must be turned in by noon. The best poker hands will win cash prizes.
If you have a cool car, you can enter the Poker Run and the Car Show, or one or the other. Even if you are rocking a minivan, you can still do the poker run if you choose. No amazing car needed!
Hot Rods for Hunger will also include an after party hosted by Bell’s Brewery and Premier Distributing. That event will be at O’Neill’s Heights (3301 Juan Tabo Blvd NE) immediately after the car show.
“Bell’s Brewery is happy to be involved with this year’s Hot Rods for Hunger. Not only will it be an amazing car show and poker run, the after party will be the kickoff to the Bell’s Brewery ‘Feeding Our Backyard’ campaign that will help feed local families this summer.”
Brian Hart, Bell’s Brewery
