The Storehouse has just a handful of staff members, and we would not be able to continue our mission to fight hunger without the dedication of our wonderful volunteers.
Paul is just one of our dedicated volunteers who donate their personal time to feed hungry people.
Why did you choose to volunteer at Storehouse?
I chose the Storehouse because I had been to a couple other places that didn’t fit me. I came here and saw the line outside and said “this is the place for me”. It’s hard to believe that so many people come so early and wait for the door to open. I have seen people line up as early as 5:30 a.m.! If people were willing to wait for food, and stand outside in the cold or heat, then I knew this place was worth it. People are down on their luck for many reasons, but it is touching to know that they always have a home away from home to come to. That’s the definition of Storehouse.
Do you have a personal connection to Storehouse?
I came here and didn’t know anyone. But now, I have met a group of people who are truly outstanding. They are all so caring and giving. I excited to see that many people are willing to give of their time. When I began volunteering a year a half ago, there were not as many volunteers! Now this place has exploded with people who give back of their time.
Why do you keep coming back?
I keep coming back because this is the place to be. I feel blessed that I am allowed to participate in this “feed the hungry” program. The Storehouse is a Godsend. It feeds thousands of people and I hope to be here for a long time. I really love working with Swarupa and the Storehouse staff! This is a group of people which is second to none. As long as I am able to donate my time, I will continue to give back to this program. Kudos to the great Storehouse staff!
Thank you Paul and to our many volunteers who help us feed 50,000 people each year.
