Storehouse New Mexico, U.S. Bank, and Adelante joined together in late August to provide food to Valencia County families. Together the three organizations provided food to 130 people in need in just a few hours including fresh produce, meats, cereals, peanut butter, breads, and canned vegetables.

The Storehouse provided and delivered the food to Los Lunas as part of the Storehouse Mobile Neighborhood Pantry program. This was the second mobile pantry offered in Valencia County and we hope to offer more in that county as part of our mission to feed hungry families if we can find sponsors.

U.S. Bank provided volunteers and the funding necessary for this mobile pantry.

“At U.S. Bank, our approach to corporate social responsibility is focused on closing the gaps between people and possibility, gaps that are far too wide for too many people,” said Larina Lucero, assistant vice president, branch manager in Los Lunas. In the past three years in New Mexico, U.S. Bank has extended over $110 million in community development loans and other investments to assist with affordable housing, encourage self-sufficiency and foster economic development.

U.S. Bank volunteers were happy to serve the Valencia County community.

In addition, U.S. Bank employees in the state contributed more than 3,800 volunteer hours.

Adelante Development Center, a local nonprofit, hosted the pantry at one of their locations in Los Lunas, New Mexico and provided 17 volunteers to distribute food. Adelante’s CEO, Mike Kivitz, says, “Adelante strives to be a community resource, and we were happy to provide a location and team members to meet this community need.”

Hunger and poverty remain a huge societal issue in New Mexico. The state ranks among the worst for food insecurity. Nearly 20 percent of New Mexicans wonder where their next meal will come from and 1 in 4 children in the state do not have enough to eat. The Storehouse is happy to provide food for people in need through our fixed pantry location in downtown Albuquerque as well as in Valencia County and through other mobile sites. We appreciate U.S. Bank and our other sponsors as well as site hosts like Adelante that make our mobile pantries possible.

Thank you U.S. Bank for helping to fight hunger in New Mexico.
