The Storehouse provides food for 40,000 hungry New Mexicans a year, on average. Yet, on a regular basis, 1 in 4 children in our community do not have enough to eat. Our client counts have increased substantially around the holidays. While the public seems to pay more attention to hunger in our state during the holidays, the reality is children in our community go hungry all year long. The Storehouse relies on donations to feed local families. That is why we are so thrilled that Sandia Area Federal Credit Union is partnering with the Storehouse again on the FACE the Hunger holiday challenge.

Sandia Area team members are contributing food to the FACE the Hunger campaign on top of their financial gifts. Credit union customers are also invited to bring canned goods to any Albuquerque area branch.

FACE stands for “Feed Area Children Everyday” and the campaign is designed to raise awareness about children’s hunger in our community. Of course, a key part of that is raising funds to support the Storehouse and our mission. That includes providing food for local children and families during the holiday season and beyond.

Sandia is Matching Your Donations!

As part of the FACE the Hunger campaign, Sandia Area is matching the first $25,000 in donations dollar for dollar. Their goal is to double the impact of the public donations through January 6, 2023. Along with support from the community, Sandia Area hopes to ensure local children and their families can enjoy the holidays without hunger and have food to eat well into 2023.

Three Ways to Give During FACE the Hunger this Holiday Season

There are three ways for the public to make donations during the FACE the Hunger Holiday challenge. First, donations can be made on the Storehouse website. Second, Sandia Area is also taking donations on their website (Sandia.org) or with the tellers at any branch location. Third, each Albuquerque branch of Sandia Area is collecting non-perishable food items. The public should look for the turquoise bins that show the Storehouse New Mexico logo.

“We’re really encouraging monetary donations to maximize assistance,” said Sara Mannal, Community Relations Manager at Sandia Area. “With Storehouse New Mexico, a single dollar can provide five meals for a hungry family, and Sandia Area is matching every donation dollar-for-dollar until we hit $25,000.” Donations of $25,000 plus the Sandia Area match will create 250,000 meals for New Mexico’s hungry kids and their families.

The Storehouse is very appreciative of Sandia Area and their CEO, Kevin Todd (a Storehouse board member) for their work fighting hunger in New Mexico. Join the FACE the Hunger challenge to make sure everyone in our community can have a holiday without hunger.
