Summer in New Mexico is spent many ways. Whether it’s a backyard barbecue or a camping trip, no celebration is complete without craft beer. Is there a better way to wash down a green chili cheeseburger? Through July 5, Bell’s Brewery and Premier Distributing are helping the Storehouse through a campaign called Feeding Our Backyard.

Bell’s Brewery began in 1985 with a quest for better beer. They are committed to brewing thoughtfully, creatively, and artistically. They have brewed award-winning beer. Bell’s and Premier also care about the communities where they work. As a result, for the second consecutive year, Bell’s is helping fight hunger in New Mexico.

Feeding Our Backyard is an easy way to make a big difference.

New Mexico has struggled with hunger for many years and the pandemic has left more families facing food insecurity. Before COVID-19, 1 in every 4 children suffered from hunger. Now, 1 in every 3 children is at risk of food insecurity. Area Sales Manager, Silas Sims, from Bell’s Brewery understands this as a native New Mexican. He says, “Hunger is a very important issue in New Mexico as we rank near the bottom in food insecurity within the United States. At Bell’s, we want to try to help the communities we serve where it is most important, making the selection of helping with hunger in NM a slam dunk choice.”

In November and December of 2020, Bell’s Brewery launched the first Feeding Our Backyard campaign with the Storehouse. Overall, the fundraiser produced over 28,000 meals for New Mexico’s hungry community members. For this year, Silas believes the partnership will continue to serve the community in big ways. He says, “we felt the Storehouse has shown a great ability to help the community on one of its biggest issues — hunger. Their ability to help anyone in need no matter what their situation was important to us, and the partnership just made sense.”

As a local food pantry, Storehouse relies on local donors to continue feeding hungry people. The Feeding Our Backyard fundraiser in an easy way to make a big difference. With every dollar donated, Storehouse can provide 5 meals to people in need.
